I had the privilege of meeting Dan Cathy, the CEO of Chick-fil-a when he came into town the other day. He shared some advice he learned from his Dad, Truett Cathy, that is applicable to all. Mr. Cathy narrowed down the three most important life decisions to the following:
1. Who is your master?
2. Who is your mate?
3. What is your mission?
First, he explained that when it comes to a master, you’re either going to follow God or yourself. True, there are leaders other than the authority of God that an individual can follow, but for simplicities sake, he limited it to these two. He established this as the first question as it will determine the direction and results of the following answers.
When it comes to marriage, one of Mr. Cathy’s colleagues gave the advice to avoid focusing on finding the right person, as much as being the right person. This is a brilliant point. After all, the finding of our soul mate is to no avail if we have not prepared ourselves for a life committed to them in a covenant marriage.
Finally, in correlation to the principle of glorifying God and enjoying Him forever, it’s important to have an overarching vision for ones life. This is especially helpful when it comes to making unbiased, sound decision.
