Wordy Wednesday

As spring is awakening here in the Carolinas, I found this weeks word perfectly fitted by virescent.

vi·res·cent /vəˈresənt,vī-/ adj. 1. greenish 2. beginning to turn green
Interesting fact, when I looked this up in Webster’s 1828 Dictionary (my personal favorite dictionary of choice) I couldn’t find it. Upon further research I found that this word actually originated within the past 19th century. Virescent derives from the Latin word virescent, meaning turning green, and inceptive of virere meaning to be green.
